Barlach was born in Wedel in Holstein. He spent most of his childhood in the so-called “old parental home” in Ratzeburg, which is today the museum building. The “Ernst-Barlach-Gesellschaft” (Ernst Barlach association) is responsible for it as well as for the museum in Wedel. On the ground floor sculptures, drawings, graphics, series of woodcuts and the late works Barlach created in Güstrow are shown. Letters, first editions and photos complete the presentation.
The museum in Ratzeburg organises special exhibitions and cultural events concerning the work of Barlach or the time in which he created his works. An archive offers research facilities on Barlach’s living and working. |
