Since 1910 the naval college in the Mürwik district in Flensburg is the central training centre for German naval officers. It is built in the style of the North German Backsteingotik (brick gothic). With its water-facing façade of more than 200 m length and its approx. 60 m high tower it dominates the southern shore of the Flensburger Förde (Flensburg Bay). It can be reached from the centre of Flensburg by car through “Mürwiker Strasse” (Mürwik Road) in about 10 minutes.
The training centre for the history of armed forces with its historical study collection is located in the former commander’s house. The collection on the premises of the naval college presents the German naval history from 1848 until today.
