In 1970 there was an exhibition on the history and development of the town of Bargteheide. It formed the foundation of the local history and folklore collection. Enlarged by numerous donations from citizens a well-equipped museum developed, which is situated in the town centre directly on the B75. In addition to local records and items from the collection the museum shows how the people worked and lived in the region before mechanical production took the place of manual work. The main emphasis is put on the processing of flax. Records, tools, textiles, implements and furniture illustrate topics of local history and folklore. Furthermore the local pre- and early history is examined.
