Description
The „Museumsinsel Lüttenheid“ (Lüttenheid museum cluster) with the Klaus-Groth-Museum and the Heide local heritage museum is located in the old craftsmen quarter Lüttenheid. In 2004 the local heritage museum moved into the immediate vicinity of the Klaus-Groth-Museum to form a unit. The „Museumsinsel“ is constituted by several historic craftsman houses which partly were elaborately restored. An expansion of the „Museumsinsel“ is planned.
The Klaus-Groth-Museum is situated in the house where the well-known Low German poet Klaus Groth (1819-1899) was born. It was built in 1796. The exhibition is dedicated to the life and works of the writer who is regarded as one of the most important Low German literary figures.
The local heritage museum of Heide presents the development and history of the town from its beginnings until now. In addition, the exhibition conveys some impressions of the living conditions in a community which was dominated by craftsmen.
The „Museumsinsel Lüttenheid“ organises cultural events in its premises regularly.

From 2025, we will be offering a new museum shop in the new entrance building. We have partial wheelchair accessibility in the building. We have disabled WCs.
