Description
The ‘Heimatmuseum Heiligenhafen’`(Heiligenhafen local history museum) was opened in the restored Art Noveau building of the former Sparkasse (savings bank) in 1992. It is situated in the historical part of the town next to the town church. The exhibition is divided into the sections of town history, seafaring, fishing and pre- and early history.
Model ships, ship paintings, nautical instruments as well as fossil finds from the „Hohe Ufer“ are to be emphasized. A portrait of the poet Theodor Storm as well as photographs and records recall his connections to Heiligenhafen and the development of the novella "Hans und Heinz Kirch".
The museum shows changing special exhibitions on art and cultural historical topics in the period from April to October. From November to March there are concert nights or other cultural events.

The exhibit is divided into sections on the history of the town, seafaring, fisheries, and prehistory. Highlights include the model ships, ship portraits, navigation instruments, and fossils from the “steep banks”.
