Flensburg Maritime Museum tells the eventful and moving history of the harbour and trading city with all its stories about the port and merchants`courts, about ships and ship owners, about ropes and riggings, about machines and motors, about machinists and captains and their daily life aboard. There are stories from faraway countries and stories about the native shore. Stories from the West Indies about slaves, sugar and rum. Stories from Flensburg Firth about boat excursions with duty-free shopping and about "Petuhtanten". Stories from the shipyards about riveters and welders and about the development of the Flensburg shipbuilding company to one of the most state-of-the-art shipyards of the world. The maritime museum was rearranged in 2012. Its exhibitions activate all senses: there are interactive stations for testing, touching, participating, watching, listening and marvelling. These make the visit to the museum an exciting expedition for young and old at the same time.
