The castle, which is well worth seeing, was built in the 16th century in the style of the Dutch Renaissance. It is under monumental protection today. It is a cultural centre and an exhibition house. It is situated in a charming park close to the subway station, only a few minutes away from Hamburg by train. Special exhibitions on modern European ceramics are shown during the summer month at “Schloß Reinbek” since 1985. The exhibits belong to the collection of Dr. Hans Thiemann from Hamburg. It is regarded as one of the most important private collections in Germany and offers an excellent overview of the ceramic creations in Europe after the Second World War.
