Description
The ‚Atrium’, the museum at the locks, is situated directly at the ‚new locks’, which were completed in 1914, at the northern end of the Kiel Canal. The construction, operation and importance of the most frequented artificial waterway for seagoing vessels are documented by illustrated charts, model ships, model landscapes, working models, technical objects, video films and historical exhibits. The locks and the international shipping traffic coming in and out of the locks can be viewed daily during daytime from two observation decks and a marked loop trail. Visit of a historical gate carriage engine house and a Schütz engine cell is possible within guided tours.Entrance: Wasser- und Schifffahrtsamt Brunsbüttel (Brunsbüttel Waterways and Shipping Office), North porter, Gustav-Meyer-Platz 2
