The Herbert Gerisch Foundation was established in December 2001, based in Neumünster. The purpose of the foundation is the promotion of the visual arts and the preservation of monuments. In the fine arts sector, the foundation focuses on the acquisition of sculptures produced by artists of international renown. Sculptures will be erected in the "Gerisch Park Centre", or in the new Gerisch Sculpture Park which is in the course of construction. The outdoor collection is complemented by changing exhibitions in the Villa Wachholtz and the Gerisch Gallery, the Remise and in the basement. The park installation lies mainly within a rural conservation area, and has therefore been designed as a nature park. Planned measures include the restoration of the former river course, which has a number of characteristic meanders, together with the establishment of footpaths. The development of this park is to be based upon a master plan, which was established in 2003 in the course of a workshop involving international participation. The park installation in the course of development will extend the urban parks, squares and municipal gardens as far as the city limits.
The principal operations for the preservation of monuments will be the restoration of a villa in the Art Nouveau style, and the reinstatement of a formerly renowned garden installation in the vicinity of the Gerisch Park Centre.
