The Eiszeitmuseum is unique among the museums. It provides an insight into the development of Schleswig-Holstein. Documentation shows how the mighty glaciers moved Scandinavian rock over hundreds of kilometres to Northern Germany and how the glacier snouts and melt water streams formed the surface of the landscape. In the collection of fossils, rocks and minerals the visitor finds typical exhibits as well as items of international importance. The study collection constitutes the third focus of the museum. Its sample pieces of all rocks and fossils are available to all interested individuals. Special exhibitions inform about fields of geology, palaeontology, biology and archaeology.
